The situation

Animals refuse medication for reasons people do not: the wrong flavour, the wrong form, or a dose that does not exist commercially. PawsOnMainRx needed to show pet owners and veterinary clinics what compounding can make for each species before they ask, in language that suits each of them.

The problem

  • A compounding pharmacy can prepare hundreds of formulas for many species, but a contact form and a list of services show none of them.
  • Owners and veterinarians ask different questions about the same animal, and need different language to answer them.
  • The form, strength and flavour an animal will accept differ by species: what a horse takes, a cat refuses.

What was built

  • A formulary of 691 compounded preparations made from 285 active ingredients, grouped into 19 therapeutic categories and tagged by species, drawn from the site's own data set.
  • Six species sections, from cats to horses, each with its own photograph and its own count of what is possible.
  • Nineteen health concern pages, cross linked both ways with the species sections.
  • An owner and veterinarian switch that changes the page's language and palette, with the two views side by side on each concern page.
  • Guides to forms, strengths and flavours, including flavour guidance by species.
  • Photographs that begin to move a moment after the page settles, with a still fallback and full respect for reduced motion settings.

Compliance decisions

  • Written with reference to College of Pharmacists of British Columbia expectations for a pharmacy website, and to BC PIPA and PIPEDA, in an internal review on 6 and 7 September 2026. No College or counsel review is recorded.
  • Every preparation is made to the veterinarian's prescription, and the site leaves the choice of route and form to the veterinarian.
